Carpet cleaning made easy

The largest items that will need cleaning within the home are carpets. When you think of the traffic that goes across them, the wear and tear they endure, and the things that are spilt on them, or trodden into them, it’s little wonder that they can start looking dirty and shabby very quickly. If you have had a party you probably won’t notice at the time what is happening, but invariably you will get a shock when you see your carpets in the morning, and these stain removing tips will come in very handy.

Now it may be tempting to just get someone out to steam clean your carpets, but this can start a never ending cycle. Carpets take a long time to dry out properly after they have been steam cleaned, and while they may feel quite dry to the touch, they will still be wet deep in the fibres, and when you walk on them the wet part will attract everything, thus when your carpet dries it will look little different than before the steam cleaning.

By taking the time and effort and treating your carpets and rugs with a good quality carpet cleaning shampoo, you can get all the stains out and leave your carpets looking almost as good as now. This is a particularly useful product for spot cleaning; where some red wine stains exist for example and you only need that part cleaning. Follow these steps and you will have the stain removed in no time.

If you notice the stain as soon as it happens, sprinkle salt over the stain and leave it. The stain will absorb the salt, and when dry it can be vacuumed up. If you haven’t noticed it until later don’t panic, you can still get rid of it. Use one of sprays that are designated for use on carpets and upholstery and spray it evenly over the stain. Leave it for 5 minutes and pat it dry. You may have to do this a few times depending on the severity of the stain.

If your whole carpet it looking decidedly grubby, there are many great products designed for cleaning large carpeted areas. As well as the aforementioned shampoo, there is also a powder that you sprinkle over the entire area, leave for the time detailed on the packaging, then vacuum it up. This lifts out dirt that has been trodden deep into the carpet, and also leaves a fresh smell behind as well as rejuvenated fibres.

  • I hadn’t really thought of the problems steam cleaning carpets would cause. I assumed the steam would be so hot the carpet would dry very quickly.
